Sadly, Greta left us on November 6, just 5 weeks after Sherman.
She loved to romp and run—she loved snow, loved rivers and streams, even loved the ocean on her one visit to the coast. She loved to stalk squirrels but was too tender-hearted to know what to do if she had ever caught one. She loved sharing what we were doing, no matter what we were doing, and couldn't bear to be away from us or away from home.
She's probably still barking at her neighbors and disinterested in most other dogs. She was a people dog, but only for her two people.
A knitter in Scotland saw a photo of Greta, and crocheted this small Greta for us. It's amazingly life-like, and a wonderful remembrance now.
She hated so much to be away from us and now we just hope she is okay without us. We aren't okay without her.

Thinking of Greta and her two people, who I met when we were young, all of our pets just a gleam in our eyes.

It may sound empty just now, but time will take care of things.
ReplyDeleteHi Cynthia, so sorry to hear about dear Greta. I hope the wide-faced Simon is a small comfort.
ReplyDeleteWe really never got to know Greta. That was because she was so devoted to you two guys.

Oh Greta. She was such her own person. She was truly a neighbor and not just a neighbor's dog. I'll miss her gruff woof when she sees me.
